Add custom button on existing Data ribbon tab in MS Excel 2007/2010

Hi There,

I would like to add a button on an existing Data tab or ribbon. My understanding is, since this ribbon already comes with MS Excel we cant customize this (like add more options to it). Is this true? It would be great if you could please provide the reference.

Thanks.

Hi Abhi,

Some customization of the built-in ribbon parts is possible, I think more under 2010 than 2007. One keyword to search for in this regard is "idMso", which is the identifier use for the built-in ribbon parts. Also perhaps "insertAfterMso and "insertBeforeMso".

This document is the best Microsoft one to look at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms406046.aspx#OfficeCustomizingRibbonUIforDevelopers_Customizing

The two articles by Ron de Bruin also seem useful: http://www.rondebruin.nl/ribbon.htm, and http://www.rondebruin.nl/xmlribbongroups.htm (Ignore the "Custom UI Part" bits, you're just interested in getting the xml right.

Write back if you manage to make some progress.
