Addin name in the addins list

May 8, 2014 at 8:19 PM

I have my addin files named as FooLoader.xll, FooLoader.dna and FooLoader.dll.
DNA file is as shown below:
<DnaLibrary Name="Foo Loader" RuntimeVersion="v4.0">
<ExternalLibrary Path="FooLoader.dll" />

I think I am right in saying that I am expecting to see "Foo Loader" in the addins list?
But I see Fooloader.

Is there a way I can force Excel to pickup the name given in the DNA file?

I think when I start debugging from Visual studio, Excel doesn't seem to pick the name from the DNA file.
Is there a reason for this?

Hi Sumeet,

I'm not sure how where and when you're checking this.
If I add the .xll to the add-ins list (in the dialog I get after I press Alt+t, i) then it seems to show the correct name.

I'm using 32-bit Excel 2013. What version are you checking with?

I do recall some issues with this in the past, but it's not something I think Excel-DNA can do any better - so any quirks are due to Excel.

In the same dialog (Alt + t, i), sometimes I see Fooloader. I then have to remove the addin from that dialog list and load again for it to appear as FooLoader.
My earlier guess about this happening only when Excel is launched from VS debug session is also wrong.
Looks like Excel quirk to me as well.

What Excel and Excel-DNA versions are you using?

Checking 80544 of Excel-DNA and Excel 2010 32 bit on 64 bit Windows 7.
