Pack error: ".dna file could not be loaded. Possibly malformed xml content? Aborting."

I don't understand this error. The .dna file is as simple as it can get:

<DnaLibrary Name="CflShell Add-In" RuntimeVersion="v4.0">
<ExternalLibrary Path="CflShell.dll" Pack="true"/>
</DnaLibrary>

It runs fine unpacked, so it is not a compile problem.

Sometimes there are 'smart quotes' that get pasted in somehow, which might cause a problem.

Or some funny non-printing character, or a weird text format.

You might start with something from the Excel-DNA distribution, check that it works, and then change it by typing, not copy-pasting, back to the content you want.

If none of that works, you could recompile the ExcelDnaPack executable, and run under a debugger to get the exact API call causing the problem, and perhaps some more error info.

I hand re-typed the dna file and it worked. I don't know what was in there to foul it up (I short-sightedly overwrote it before I could look at it at a binary level!)
